A Spritz of Relief

This aromatherapy column is dedicated to you and your family. In each issue we will talk about everyday concerns that you can effectively treat with aromatherapy and help you on your way to all-natural health and wellness. In this issue we are featuring an insect repellent, sunburn soother, and stress reliever.

Insect Repellent
Many of us at this time of year love to camp, hike, work in our gardens, play tennis, swim, and enjoy other outdoor activities. Well, guess what, so do all of the little biting critters. So we can either spend our time outdoors trying to swat away the mosquitoes, chiggers, and other pesky bugs, or we can use an all-natural aromatherapy bug repellent and enjoy ourselves.

Aromatherapy is the use of natural plant essences to treat everyday ailments. The beauty of aromatherapy products is that they are all natural, very effective, and typically economical. How can you go wrong with that combination?

With a few drops of Lavender, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Tea Tree, Lemongrass, and Peppermint, you can enjoy the benefits of this insect repellent and get a spritz of relief.

Sunburn Soother
Another area in which we want summer time relief is with sunburns. A day by the pool, the lake, or the beach can turn into a nightmare if we leave our skin unprotected from the sun. Even if we smother ourselves with sunscreen, it seems that the combination of sun, wind, and surf often cause our skin to become dried out, even painful. An aromatherapy blend of Lavender, Chamomile, Geranium, and Peppermint can be just the thing to give us a spritz of relief from the damages of the sun.

Stress Relief
Even though we are enjoying the more relaxed atmosphere of summer, school is right around the corner. There is so much to get ready; we need to get the back packs, the school supplies, clothes, on and on. Just thinking about it gets me stressed out. And as we adults are running around like crazy people, our children are also feeling the stress of getting back to school; a new teacher, new friends, new lessons, more homework, it can really cause a great deal of anxiety for everyone involved.

A room spray that contains Orange, Nutmeg, and Lavender has been very successful with children in giving them a sense of comfort and calm. For the adults, we have a room spray that has a bit more power and includes Clary Sage, Lavender, Geranium, and Chamomile.

WOW, it's great to see how much aromatherapy can benefit our lives, and it is also surprising to realize that we don't have to change our lifestyle to incorporate aromatherapy. A spritz of a water-based aromatherapy spray and we are armed and ready to deal with bugs, sun, and stress.
