Aromatherapy in the Kitchen

Many of our fondest experiences and memories seem to occur in the kitchen. Not only is it a great place to congregate to catch up, but it also provides a fragrant environment where good food, comfort, and entertainment take place. You might think with all of this goodness that essential oils would be redundant, but let’s look at two simple and enticing blends that can enhance your kitchen.

Keeping it Clean
For those of us who take our kitchens seriously, much time and attention is give to keeping it clean. Commercial cleaning products can be found under the sink ready for easy access. We may not cry over spilled milk, but we are there with spray bottle in hand to clean it up. We want to ensure clean counters for food preparation, clean stoves and ovens for baking and cooking, and clean plates and utensils for serving and enjoying. Unfortunately, with synthetic cleaning products, this usually requires three or more different products. The result is an expensive, chemical-smelling combination that may clean and disinfect, but makes you want to scrunch your nose or stay out of the room until the smell dissipates.

Germ Free Spray – Now you can take care of all your kitchen needs with one easy and effective blend that contains essential oils that offer power-packed antibacterial, antiseptic, antifungal, and disinfectant ingredients. In a spray bottle containing 8 ounces of water; add 6 drops EACH of Eucalyptus and Lavender, 9 drops of Lemon, and 2 drops of Tea Tree. Spray affected surfaces and wipe with clean cloth.

Blending Savory Scents
Seasonal fragrances occur not only in nature, but in our kitchens as well. The smell of hot chocolate in the winter and lemon tea in the summer bring a smile to our faces. When cooking or baking seasonal favorites, you can accent your meals with a pleasant and subtle essential oil blend.

Seasonal Room Sprays – For the Fall and early Winter, you want a spray that is cozy and inviting. Fortunately, with this blend, you not only achieve that wonderful aroma, but you are also increasing the health in your home with oils that have antiviral and antibacterial properties. In a spray bottle containing 8 ounces of water add 5 drops of Clove, 7 drops of Cinnamon, and 8 drops of Lavender. Use as a room spray.
